What the state buys, by farm type
Every farm type is valued differently and needs its own documents. Choose yours for the specifics.
Cattle
High. Fenced, watered grazing units of 500 hectares and up are regularly acquired across the northern districts.
Citrus
Medium. Irrigated, export-registered orchards with water rights draw state interest, particularly in restitution areas.
Dairy
High. Going-concern dairies with irrigation and a milk contract are among the most sought-after PLAS acquisitions.
Game
Medium. Interest is concentrated in restitution areas adjoining protected areas.
Macadamia
Medium. Interest is growing where orchards are bearing and a processor relationship exists.
Mixed farming
Medium to high, depending on the arable share and water security.
Sugar cane
High. PLAS grower programmes near the Felixton, Amatikulu, Darnall, Gledhow, Sezela, and Umzimkulu mills actively seek productive cane units of 80 hectares and up, and restitution settlements often include cane land.
Timber
Medium to high. The state acquires timber farms with valid permits and serviceable roads for community forestry enterprises, particularly in Harry Gwala and the Midlands.
