Case study
A 2,100-hectare Zululand cattle farm settled through restitution
A gazetted claim over a grazing farm near Vryheid was settled with the Commission in 29 months, with the seller keeping the herd.
The challenge
The claim had been gazetted for years with no movement. The owner needed certainty and the community needed a workable settlement.
What we did
We reopened the file with the Commission's project officer, prepared a camp and water inventory, supported the Valuer-General's valuation with comparable grazing sales, and kept both parties on one timeline.
The outcome
Settlement at a supported valuation, registration to the community's property association, and the herd sold privately by the seller before transfer.
Identifying details have been changed at the seller's request. Figures are as recorded on the file.
